Country details

Cyprus offers EU membership, English-speaking environment, and a Non-Domicile regime that provides a 17-year exemption from Special Defence Contribution on dividends, interest, and rental income. For international business structuring and HNWI residence, the island combines favorable taxation with common law legal traditions.

Personal income tax reaches a maximum of 35%. There is no inheritance tax, no wealth tax, and highly favorable treatment of foreign pension income (5% flat tax). Capital gains tax only applies to Cyprus immovable property sales. The 12.5% corporate tax rate is among the EU's lowest, supported by an extensive double tax treaty network.

The Permanent Residence Permit requires real estate investment of at least EUR 300K in new property from a developer. The permit is granted within 2 months and provides the right to reside indefinitely with full Schengen mobility. The permit does not grant work rights but allows unlimited entry and stay.

Cyprus's former citizenship by investment program was terminated in November 2020 following passport scandals. Standard naturalization now requires 7 years of residence (5 if married to a Cypriot).

The island's strategic location, EU membership, and sophisticated professional services sector continue to attract international business despite increased regulatory scrutiny.
