Country details

Bahrain offers zero personal income tax, zero capital gains tax, zero inheritance tax, and zero withholding taxes on dividends or interest. Among Gulf states, Bahrain distinguishes itself with a more accessible residency framework and a well-developed financial services sector regulated by the Central Bank of Bahrain.

A 5% VAT applies to most goods and services. Corporate tax currently applies only to oil and gas companies. The dinar is pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate.

The Golden Residency Visa program, launched in 2022, offers 10-year renewable visas for investors, retirees, and special talents. Property investors must invest at least BHD 200K (~USD 530K) in residential real estate. Retirees need monthly income of BHD 2K (~USD 5K) plus BHD 10K (~USD 27K) in savings for each family member.

Bahrain does not offer citizenship by investment, but Golden Residency holders enjoy most benefits of permanent residence including property ownership and business sponsorship rights. The country positions itself as a fintech hub with a regulatory sandbox for innovation.

Bahrain offers 100% foreign ownership in most sectors, no restrictions on capital repatriation, and a streamlined business environment making it attractive for regional headquarters and financial services operations.
