Argentina's citizenship by investment program was formally established through Decree 524/2025 in July 2025, making it the first CBI program in South America. While the legal framework is in place, the program is not yet operational and is expected to launch in late 2026 or early 2027.

The program will focus on productive investments in priority sectors including agribusiness, renewable energy, technology, and tourism infrastructure. Real estate investments have been deliberately excluded from the program to focus on job-creating ventures. Investment thresholds have not been officially published, though industry speculation suggests approximately USD 500,000 for business investments.

The Argentine passport provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to approximately 170 countries, including the entire Schengen area, United Kingdom, Japan, and temporarily China. The United States requires a B visa, though Argentina is in the process of rejoining the Visa Waiver Program following a July 2025 agreement.

Unlike some CBI programs, Argentina offers no special tax treatment for investors. Residents face worldwide taxation with progressive income tax rates up to 35% and a personal assets tax (wealth tax) of 0.5-1.75% on global net worth.
